Hi everyone! Thank you for stopping by to check out my brand new series ‘What’s On My Nightstand?’ 🙂 I thought it would be fun to write a review of the books that I am reading to give you some ideas of what you might like to read next. Or, if you have read them I would love to hear what you thought, just leave me a comment below!
So having recently just finished the Harry Potter series (finally!), I wanted to continue with the fantasy world theme. Sometimes it’s nice to escape from reality into a totally different world! The book I picked was A Court of Thorns and Roses, by Sarah J. Maas.
What’s the Book About?
Feyre is the main female character who knows how to kick some ass basically! Having been taken to the Magical Kingdom for killing a High Faerie, over time she falls for her jailer. Knowing that there has been a curse put over the Kingdom, she now wants to risk her life and help the Faerie people fight against the impossible.
What to say about it…if you enjoyed the Twilight series, then you will definitely enjoy this. It is an easy read, aimed at young adults and teens. The story revolves around dark magic, so you either like that sort book or you don’t. Personally I do! However this is a ROMANTIC Fantasy….and clearly I didn’t pass much remark on the word Romantic when I bought the book as I don’t normally opt for this type of book! The story of Feyre and Tamlin, the High Faerie, is what this book is based around, so it is a very strong love story which does lead to some fairly cringey scenes! I will mention that I don’t think this book is suitable for early teens.
Overall though, I did enjoy it as, well, it’s a bit of a twisted take on a love story. I love films like Maleficent and Snow White and the Huntsman, as they are a total twist on the original fairy tale. I would say this book is almost like a twisted fairy tale. I will most likely read the rest of the series:)
More About the Book
A Court of Thorns and Roses was released on May 5, 2015 and this is the first book in the series. There are currently two other books already published. A Court of Mist and Fury was released May 3, 2016 and A Court of Wings and Ruin was released May 2, 2017. A Court of Frost and Starlight is due to be released in May 2018.
Thank you so much for reading my review! I don’t have a particular genre that I like to stick with, I like to read a little of everything, so my next review will be a something a little different:)
I would love to hear if you have any recommendations; just leave them in the comments below!
