Bring A Little Hygge Into Your Home

Okay, so you are probably wondering how you can bring a little Hygge into your home or, more than likely, you are wondering what does Hygge even mean! Well, if you are intrigued, then just keep reading because I promise you, you will love it and may in fact already have a little Hygge in your home or maybe even living a Hygge life!

It’s okay, I never heard the word Hygge before either, not until the lovely people at Wayfair brought it to my attention! When they told me the basic concept of Hygge, the nerd in me wanted to know a little bit more…so I downloaded ‘The Little book of Hygge’ by Meik Wiking and learned some more about it and what can I say, eh who wouldn’t want to live a Hygge life!

Hygge (pronounced Hoo-ga) is basically a wonderful type of lifestyle the Danish people live by. It’s about spending time with small groups of family and friends and enjoying great food, warm drinks and having light and fun conversation. It’s also about your surroundings and the feeling that they give you, been cosy and feeling pure relaxation. This is definitely the vision I have for the interior of our home, I want people to feel welcome and relaxed as soon as they walk in the door!

Add a roaring fire, light some candles, a couple of well placed lamps, maybe a few board games and you are almost perfecting Hygge!

Light The Room

The Danish take their lighting very very seriously! Lamps have to be placed in just the right area. I rarely have the main light in my sitting room on, instead I always use my two lamps, they give a much nicer, softer glow to the room:)

Probably one of thee must important aspects of Hygge, candles and well who doesn’t love candles? A typical Hygge household tend to prefer regular candles over scented candles, purely because they light so many! Personally, I love scented candles in my house. A relaxing Saturday night with a glass of red wine, some candles lit and a welcoming fire, pure bliss:)

Cosy it Up

Setting the scene and living in an environment that makes you feel totally relaxed and comfortable is well, let’s be honest, the ideal home! For us, right now, we are been very boring adults and in money saving mode so we spend a lot of time at home. Simple touches like throws, some cushions, a pretty side table to hold your books, these are all little touches that will cosy up your room in no time:)

Warm drinks are considered very Hygge, whether it’s a cup of coffee, a mug of hot chocolate or an Irish coffee, any of these are a good choice! Having nice ceramics, like mugs, teapots or a vase full of flowers will add to that cosy feeling.

Who doesn’t want a home that is warm, inviting and makes you so comfortable you don’t want to ever leave? With Denmark been one of the happiest countries in the world, clearly they are doing something right, so if you aren’t already, give Hygge living a little go:)

Thanks so much to Wayfair for inviting me to create a post about all things Hygge!

I hope you all enjoyed reading this post as much as I did writing it!
