Edmonton

Happy Christmas

We arrived in Edmonton on 21st December 2013 to -23° C temperatures. Never felt cold like it, until the day it hit -40° C. An apartment had been arranged for us through Simon’s work so we lucky to have a nice place to call home for Christmas. It was a pretty different Christmas for us, and our first ever away from our families and unfortunately we had no internet to Skype and no TV, it was just me, Simon, a 10lb turkey and The Lord of The Rings Trilogy DVD!

Toronto

6 Months of Toronto

Richmond Hill

We were very fortunate when we first moved to Canada as a wonderful wee woman called Mrs Little, opened her home to us. There is always someone who knows someone who knows someone! It was such a big help to have someone tell you where you need to go to get your SIN card (basically your PPSN number), recommend a bank, tell you about the bus/subway system etc.

If you are thinking of moving abroad, but are a bit weary of the unknown, don’t be afraid to reach out to people. If you happen to know that the person you work with has a second cousin in the town or city you are going to move to, then ask them for their contact info. Most people don’t mind giving advice/meeting you when you first arrive or introducing you to people and places. This is the best way to make friends and even find a job!

Moving to Canada

Do We Stay or Do We Go?

We talked, literally, for years about moving abroad. We had always been keen to do a bit of travelling so when the opportunity came for us to move to Canada, well sure why wouldn’t we give it a go? And I won’t lie, our want to travel was not the only reason for upping sticks, we were in the midst of recession. So with no mortgage – frankly because the bank wouldn’t give us one – and no kids, there was no better time for us to make the move.
