Yep, it’s that time of year already, Christmas is well and truly upon us…where has this year gone?! So I thought it might be appropriate to create a small Christmas gift guide and a couple of tips.
Let’s face it, it can be so hard to come up with gift ideas and sometimes all we need is a bit of inspiration.
1. Secret Santa
Think about doing a Secret Santa (it doesn’t have to be kept a secret!) with your family and/or friends. This will alleviate a lot of hassle trying to think what to buy and is way cheaper as you will be buying for one person instead of five!
Set yourself a budget for presents, and stick to it. I am sure I am not the only one that spends waaaaaay too much at Christmas.
3. Practical Presents
Sometimes practical presents are just better. Seriously. If you are buying things just for the sake of buying them, then don’t because you just end up wasting money on, sorry to say it, crap! I say this, but I am guilty of it too. So if you are going to buy your Granny another pair of slippers, then maybe consider getting new curtains, a few bails of briquettes or a voucher for her local hairdresser. Honestly, she will probably prefer this to opening what will probably be her 7th pair of slippers in less than 24 hours.
4. Magazine Subscription
What is better that a gift that lasts all year long? A lot of these subscriptions are reasonably priced too. Check out this site https://www.subscribe.ie/. It has magazine subscriptions to suit everyone, from foodies to golf nuts. If you cannot find the magazine you want here, you may have to directly to the magazines website instead.
5. A Night Away
Who doesn’t love getting whisked away, if even for one night! Now I don’t mean book a hotel that is €250 a night and a four hour drive away, I mean look at what’s on your doorstep. I have no doubt that there are some fantastic hotels in your local area with some good offers. If you are based in Manorhamilton, you have Sligo, Carrick-on Shannon and Enniskillen all close by, that’s a lot of hotels to choose from, including – Castle Dargan in County Sligo and The Landmark Hotel, County Leitrim.
6. DIY Hamper
These I love, so easy and full of goodies! Let’s say you want a ‘Saturday Night In’ hamper. You will need a very pretty box, I get mine in Cara Pharmacy, they have lovely boxes for a couple of euro or check out the pound shop, they might have nice wicker baskets and some straw to stuff in the bottom of the box/basket to help you get some height. You will need some cellophane wrap and pretty ribbon. Then start filling it! Here, is a list of goodies you can put in your hamper:
♥ Face masks ♥ Hair treatment ♥ Bubble bath
♥ Yankee candle ♥ Nail varnish ♥ Nail file
♥ Book ♥ Fluffy slippers ♥ Hot chocolate & marshmallows
♥ Some candy canes for direction
And voila, you have a beautiful, personalised hamper with the added bonus of your personal touch! You can obviously put what you like in your hamper. Maybe a food hamper, or a wine, prosecco and cheese hamper? The possibilities are endless!
7. Golf Membership
Yes, this is a pricey gift, but ladies if you want him out from under your feet every now and then, then buy him this.
8. Concert Tickets
Easy peasy, and well you get a present out of it too! If you really want to splash out, then book a hotel and make a night of it.
9. Pamper Day
January is a long and dreary month, so wouldn’t it be so nice to have a day of pampering to look forward to. A facial, then manicure and pedicure and a trip to the hairdressers, bliss! All together this can be pricey, so even gifting one of these things is great. Check out the seaweed baths in Sligo or your local beauticians, sometimes there are great package deals available.
Place an order for the first Friday of every month (or whatever day you choose), for the next twelve months. Honestly, there is never a bad time to get a bunch of flowers. Check out the Interflora page. They have an option of paying €12.00 in addition to your first delivery and this ensures that you will have free delivery on every order for twelve months.
11. Gift Vouchers
The good old reliable, but probably the best pressie you can get. Who doesn’t love getting an Amazon voucher?!
Maybe just be a bit more specific with the type of vouchers you get. Know someone who likes to travel? Consider a voucher for an airline. Know a bookworm? Amazon vouchers are great for this, but really it’s more enjoyable to walk around the book shop and choose what you want, so consider instead a voucher for your local book store (plus your supporting local business, win win). Diesel, home heating oil, cinema, local supermarket vouchers – always a safe bet!
