As we knew we wouldn’t be settling in Toronto, we decided we would take a trip to Niagara Falls before we left for Edmonton. We are soooo glad we did. It is so beautiful and definitely worth a trip to see. We rented a car for 3 days and made the short hour and twenty minute journey to the Falls. Buses also run regular from Toronto or Richmond Hill and are about a two hour journey if renting a car is not an option for you.
We stayed in a small B & B that was a twenty minute walk from the Falls. The weather was perfect when we went in August, so we didn’t mind the short walk. There are plenty of hotels closer and in the town itself that in hindsight really would have been a far better option!
Things to Do
Impressive is definitely an understatement for seeing the Falls. They are spectacular. If you are planning a visit, then do not leave without doing the Maid of the Mist. It is AMAZING! The boat brings you right up close to Horseshoe Falls and it is without doubt a memorable experience and I am so glad we did it.
We also did the Journey Behind The Falls. This is a very cool way to see the Falls from a totally different view, and to read a bit about its history.
Of course the Niagara Sky Wheel is a great way to see a panoramic view of the area. For those of you not great with heights like myself, then I don’t recommend it…I literally cried up there! The views were amazing, I’m told – I couldn’t see too much peeping through my fingers! And when you get off the sky wheel, you can catch a game of crazy golf, much more relaxing than been 175 feet in the air!
Niagara on the Lake
On our last day, we took a spin to Niagara on the Lake. This was recommended to us, and we are glad we took the spin to see it. It is about half an hour drive from Niagara Falls and we are glad we took the time to see it. It is such a pretty and well-kept wee town. We just took it easy, had some ice-cream and strolled around…it was a lovely end to a lovely few days!
