It can be a little nerve wrecking when you first start out with baby led weaning. The part I found a little difficult was getting new recipes. As I am, currently, only making vegetarian meals for my daughter, I found I had to do more digging to get some really nice recipes. I love recipes where I can make a big batch of the same meal so that I have plenty for the freezer. This makes life soooo much easier.

What is Baby Led Weaning?

You may be wondering what exactly is baby led weaning and to take the definition of baby led weaning directly from the dictionary, it is ‘a method of introducing solid food into a baby’s diet by allowing them to feed themselves, as opposed to being spoon-fed‘

The idea of baby led weaning is to introduce your child to certain solid foods and allows them to learn how to feed themselves. It allows them to experience different textures and be more involved at family mealtime. Like anything, there are pros and cons to baby led weaning so be sure and check some reputable sites that will give you more information about baby led weaning.

If you are not 100% comfortable with baby ked weaning, you always use a combination of spoon feeding and baby led weaning – that is what I have done with my own kids and I found it worked well for us. I think it is also worth getting a book with lots of info on baby led weaning that also has some great recipes, check out this one I bought before we began on our baby led weaning journey!

Now, back to this easy baby pancake recipe. For some added yumminess (I am sure that’s a word?!) you can add a little cinnamon or vanilla to the pancakes. What I love about this also is that if you have no blueberries in the house, no problem, just use apple and banana and you can even just banana baby pancakes!

  • Grate the peeled apple onto a tea towel. This is so that you can squeeze the excess juice from the apple. Then add the grated apple to the banana and blueberry and egg
  • Now, add the oats and mix together
  • Warm a pan with spray olive oil (or you can use coconut oil).
  • Add a tablespoon size of the mixture to the heated pan. Depending on your babies age you might want to make smaller pancakes, so a tablespoon size may be a little big. Flip when the pancake has browned on one side
